Laser Cavity Treatment

A laser instead of a drill
Treating tooth decay (dental caries, cavities) is for most people associated with uncomfortable drilling. Even after the application of an anesthetic injection, the person can feel undesired vibrations and the squealing sound of the drill is not something most people enjoy hearing. Nowadays, the treatment can be carried out by using a laser dental instrument instead of a drill.
How the laser works
The laser works differently when compared to the standard drill. The mechanical drill bit is replaced with the laser beam which evaporates the tissue it is aimed at.
Why use a laser?
The laser removes tissue damaged by the tooth decay in a more sensitive manner and has numerous benefits as opposed to the classical drill. It is far more accurate and allows the dentist to be considerably more targeted in treating tooth decay (dental caries, cavities). The laser beam is capable of detecting the difference between healthy tooth tissue and decayed tissue. It is therefore not necessary to remove healthy bits of the tooth unnecessarily. Further, the laser also has antibacterial qualities ensuring that the areas below the decayed areas remain sterile at all times.
Is the removal of tooth decay painless?
As long as the decay (cavity) is on the surface only, you will truly not feel any pain. In the case of larger affected areas, we recommend that you ask for an anesthetic injection.
